We Tried the TikTok Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake and This is How It Turned Out

We made the popular online recipe from TikTok for Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake, and we’re eager to share our results with you. Learn how to prepare this super easy cake at home and how it worked out for us.

We were skeptical when we first heard of the TikTok Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake.

It seemed almost too good to be true—with just a few handpicked ingredients, you can create a delicious cake in minutes?

We had to try it.

And what we found was actually a gigantic fail.

For starters, the TikTok recipe had a base of sweet blueberry biscuits and a can of vanilla frosting.

While that sounds like a great addition to a traditional dump cake, the blueberry biscuits quickly overwhelmed the dish.

I mean they rose while baking, as expected, and caused the dump cake to overflow in the oven and make a huge burned-on mess.

The TikTok Lemon Blueberry dump cake definitely did not turn out at all like the finished cake shown in the video.

So, we’re going to show you how to make a fantastic Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake.

This recipe is not the TikTok Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake recipe – it’s one that actually turns out amazing and so easy to make.

Key to Success #1 – Blueberry Pie Filling For the Win

Blueberries and lemons are a classic flavor combination.

But Blueberry Lemon dump cake is a truly special way to enjoy the two together.

Not only is this 3-ingredient dessert incredibly delicious, but it’s also incredibly easy to make.

Dump cakes are so named because you don’t have to mix all the ingredients together.

You just “dump” them into the pan!

This makes them great for busy weeknights when you need something tasty and quick.

A classic Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake starts with two cans of blueberry pie filling and one box of lemon supreme cake mix.

First, spread both cans of pie filling evenly in the bottom of your baking dish.

Next, sprinkle the cake mix over the top.

Finally, slice 1 ½ cups of butter into small tabs and arrange them on top of the cake mix.

Do not mix together!

Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes at 350°F (177°C).

Key to Success #2 – Butter Your Cake Mix Using Cold Butter Tabs

When it comes to making a dump cake, knowing how to cut and arrange the butter on top is key to achieving optimal flavor and texture.

Cutting butter into tabs is an essential step that helps ensure that the butter melts evenly across the top of the cake mix and creates a delicious, moist crumb topping.

Not only does this help create a perfectly balanced dump cake.

But it’s also much easier than trying to melt large amounts of butter before adding it to the dry ingredients.

When preparing the butter for your dump cake, start by cutting one and a half sticks of cold butter and slicing them lengthwise into thirds or fourths.

Then cut these pieces crosswise into small slices about 1/4-inch thick.

This will create small ‘tabs’ which are easy to spread over your dry ingredients in an even layer.

Be sure not to mix together the butter and dry ingredients as this will result in a gummy texture in your finished cake.

Once you have placed your tabs of butter on top of your dry ingredients, pop it in the oven and bake until golden brown!

This should take 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

But be sure to watch it because sometimes the topping can have dry and powdery spots where there is not enough butter.

To avoid this issue, spray the dry spots with a little bit of nonstick cooking spray.

This will add enough moisture to the cake mix to allow all of the toppings to get moist and golden brown.

Key to Success #3 – Serve Warm With a Creamy Topping

This indulgent Lemon Blueberry Dump Cake is a heavenly treat that balances the tartness of the lemon cake with the sweetness of the blueberries.

The crunchy bits of buttery topping make it even more delicious.

And since this recipe only requires three ingredients, it’s easy to whip up any time you need an indulgent dessert without much fuss or effort.

Serve it warm with ice cream or sweetened whipped cream for an extra special treat!

If I added additional fresh blueberries to the canned, how do you think it would turn out? Could I add additional lemon flavor to this cake by adding some fresh lemon zest? It maybe a lemon icing drizzle?

You can definitely add more fresh blueberries to the canned. You can probably even reduce the pie filling to 1 can and replace it with a pint or so of fresh blueberries to make it less sweet. You can add fresh lemon zest. I think a lemon icing drizzle sounds fantastic if you don't want to top it with ice cream.
