  • In a medium glass bowl, combine blackberries and 1/4 cup sugar. Stir well. Allow blackberries to sit undisturbed for 30 minutes to allow juices to develop.
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Place butter in an 8X8-inch baking dish and place in the oven while preheating.
  • Combine flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, salt, milk, vanilla, and almond extract in a small bowl. Pour over melted butter. Do not mix.
  • Spoon blackberries and syrup over the batter. Do not mix. 
  • Bake 45 minutes or until golden brown.
