For the Chocolate Coating

  • 12 oz 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 2 Tbsp shortening

Directions

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter and cream cheese at medium speed until smooth. Add in vanilla and salt then mix well. A little at a time, blend in the powdered sugar until fully combined.
  • Use a small cookie scoop to portion out 2 teaspoons of dough. Roll the dough into a ball then use the bottom of a glass to press the ball slightly to flatten it. (For easy removal, place a bit of wax paper between the dough and the glass!) Refrigerate for 1-2 hours until firm.
  • In a small microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate chips and shortening on HIGH power for 1 minute. Stir well. Continue heating in 30-second increments until the chocolate is melted and smooth. Dip the buttercreams into the chocolate mixture, allowing the excess chocolate to drip off. Place them on a wax paper-lined baking sheet. Garnish with festive sprinkles, chocolate sprinkles, or chocolate shavings. Refrigerate until set.
