Key to Success #1 – Quality Ingredients
I know I mentioned it before but I’m going to say it again – these flower treats are super cute but really delicious, too.
The key is to use high-quality ingredients to really bring out both the sweet and salty flavors.
For the pretzel snaps, make sure you get salted pretzels for a perfect sweet-and-salty treat.
You can either use the regular ones or the butter snaps variety.
The chocolate melting wafers also bring a lot of flavor to this treat.
I like dark chocolate so I used Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers.
You can, of course, use any kind that you prefer.
Key to Success #2 – Timing is Everything
One of the trickiest things to figure out is how long to microwave the chocolate so that it is perfectly melted but not melting all over the place.
For me and my microwave, the sweet spot was right around 35-40 seconds.
I should also mention that my testing was with 5-6 pretzel snaps on each paper plate.
You want the melting wafer to be soft but not completely liquid.
Key to Success #3 – M&M Selection
For these Fall Harvest Pretzel Flowers, I used a bag of the plain Harvest Mix M&M’s.
The Harvest Mix bag has some darker shades of yellow, purple, red, and brown and is perfect for this Fall treat.
I also used a few orange and yellow candies from a regular bag of M&Ms just because I had them in my pantry.
I should mention that I had a lot of help from some kids to put together these Fall Harvest Pretzel Flowers for you.
They picked out all the color schemes. Some of them made 5-petal flowers and some made 6-petal flowers.
You can see in all the pictures on this blog post that they really did a wonderful job!
Parting Thought For My Type-A Friends
We’re all friends here, right?
One little tiny thing to keep in mind if you’re really picking about quality control is that pesky little printed lowercase “m” on one side of each M&M.
You’ll want to make sure you put the printed side of the M&M facing down so that your Fall Harvest Pretzel Flowers will look perfectly flowery.
I hope this recipe brings your family together this holiday season!
Whether you’re a parent or a grandparent or a special family friend, enjoy those precious little chocolaty fingers while you can because they’ll grow up before you know it.
