Air Fryer Crispy Home Fries are a quick and easy side dish for those busy weeknights. They’re made with good hard-working russet potatoes and require no soaking!
Do you call these Home Fries or Breakfast Potatoes? I’ve always called them home fries.
And I don’t like them with a bunch of peppers and onions in them.
I like them simpler. But that’s just my opinion!
You can certainly add onions and other seasonings to this recipe if you’d like.

Key to Success #1 – Use Russet Potatoes
Russet potatoes are perfect for Air Fryer Home Fries.
They crisp up really well on the outside while staying soft and creamy on the inside.
I usually peel my potatoes before I dice them but you can leave the skin on if that’s the way you like your Home Fries.
I feel like my kids eat Home Fries better if the skin is removed so that’s my motivation for the extra work.
Key to Success #2 – Dry Potatoes Well
After you dice your potatoes, make sure you use a clean kitchen towel or a few paper towels to dry your potatoes well.
If your potatoes are too wet, they will not get crispy in the Air Fryer.
Make sure your potatoes are cut into pieces that are about the same size.
If your potato pieces are uniform in size, they will cook more evenly.
You won’t end up with some Air Fryer Home Fries that are overcooked and some that are under-cooked.
Key to Success #3 – Lightly Oil the Potatoes
For the crispiest Air Fryer Crispy Home Fries, coat your dried potatoes with a bit of olive oil. You don’t need a lot.
A little goes a long way when you’re cooking food in the Air Fryer.
Once your potatoes are coated in oil, it’s time to season your Home Fries.
I like to use a little salt and a lot of pepper, but you could add a little garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or your preferred seasonings.
Key to Success #4 – Put Potatoes in a Single Layer
If you have more diced potatoes than will fit evenly in the bottom of the Air Fryer basket, I would suggest splitting your Home Fries into two batches.
Crowding the food in an Air Fryer is a recipe for soggy food. You will not get the crispy fried food that you’re expecting.
