Why I Love This Recipe
This is one of those recipes that checks every box for me.
It is fast, dependable, and always gets compliments.
I love that I can make two slightly different looks from one batch, some loaded with white chocolate chips and others topped with heart shaped Valentine candies.
Best of all, it never fails, which is exactly what I want during a busy holiday season.

Ingredients You’ll Need
This Valentine’s Day cookie recipe uses simple ingredients you can easily find at any grocery store, and each one plays an important role.
- Red velvet cake mix
This is the base of the recipe and gives the cookies their color and classic red velvet flavor. Any brand works, but I usually grab Duncan Hines. - Baking powder
Adding baking powder helps the cookies rise just enough so they are soft and thick instead of dense. - Eggs
Eggs bind everything together and give the cookies structure. I always use large eggs straight from the fridge. - Vegetable oil
Oil keeps these cake mix cookies soft and moist. You can substitute canola oil if that is what you have. - White chocolate chips (optional)
These add sweetness and contrast beautifully with the red velvet flavor. I also press extra chips into the tops for a bakery style look.

How to Make Valentine’s Day Red Velvet Cake Mix Cookies
These cookies come together quickly and do not require chilling, which makes them perfect for last minute baking.

Pro Tips for Perfect Cookies
One little trick that always works for me in my kitchen is using a medium cookie scoop.
It keeps the cookies uniform so they bake evenly and look more professional.
I also slightly underbake them so the centers stay soft and fudgy once they cool.
If your cookies look a little puffed when they come out of the oven, do not worry.
They settle perfectly as they cool.

Serving Suggestions
These Valentine’s Day cookies are perfect for gifting.
I love stacking a few in a clear bag tied with a ribbon for neighbors or teachers.
They are also great on a Valentine’s dessert board with chocolate dipped strawberries, brownies, and pink candies.
Serve them with a glass of milk, hot chocolate, or even coffee for an easy sweet treat.
Recipe Variations
If you want to switch things up, there are lots of easy ways to customize this recipe.
- Swap the white chocolate chips for semi sweet chocolate chips or chocolate chunks.
- Use cream cheese flavored baking chips for a classic red velvet pairing.
- Top the cookies with Valentine sprinkles instead of heart candies.
- Make them Christmas themed by using red and green candies instead.
