Halloween Pretzel Bites are a super simple treat that you can customize in numerous different ways.
I used Hershey’s Hugs, Hershey’s Kisses, Rolos, and Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers as the “glue” for these pretzel bites.
When I made the Fall Harvest Pretzel Flowers, I used the Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers and they worked great so I definitely wanted to use those again.

Key to Success #1 – Microwave on Paper Plates
Although you can use any type of microwave-safe plate that you have on hand, I think it makes most sense to make these pretzel bites on paper plates.
The main reason for this is because you’re going to want to leave the pretzel bites alone while they are cooling.
You can make each batch of pretzel bites on a separate paper plate then set aside to let the pretzel bites cool.
I thin that plan is much easier than trying to transfer the pretzel bites to a sheet of waxed paper and re-using the same plate.
Key to Success #2 – One Type of Chocolate at a Time
One of the biggest tips for making these Halloween Pretzel Bites is to melt only one type of chocolate at a time.
Some of the chocolates melt in the microwave faster than others.
Because of this, it’s important to melt them separately so that you don’t have some pretzel bites that are over-melted and some of that are not melted enough.
Candy Melting Times
These times are approximate. Your microwave may be different.
- For Hershey’s Kisses – 45-50 seconds
- For Hershey’s Hugs – 40-45 seconds
- For Rolos – 25-30 seconds
- For Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers – 35-40 seconds
Melt the chocolate only until the chocolate softens.
You do not want the chocolate to be fully melted or it will run off the pretzel.
Microwave only until the chocolate is soft enough to press the decoration into.
Key to Success #3 – Use your Creativity with the Decorations
The sky is the limit when it comes to decorations for these pretzel bites.
You can just add a few sprinkles to each one and call it good if you’re not into complicated Pinterest projects.
But there are so many options to make these Halloween pretzel bites really shine.
Decoration Ideas
Here are a handful of decorating ideas to get you started.
- Add a single candy corn on top of a pretty striped Hershey’s Hug
- Place two eyes and a single sprinkle for the mouth (pick a sprinkle that best represents the facial expression that you are going for)
- Use Harvest colored M&M’s on top of a Hershey’s Kiss
- Sprinkle nonpareils over the chocolate melting wafers.
- Use some Halloween Ghost Sprinkles on dark chocolate
The Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers keep their round shape when melted so they are perfect for faces or other designs that require a round backdrop.

Halloween Pretzel Bites
Ingredients
- 40 pretzel snaps
- 40 Hershey’s Kisses Hershey’s Hugs, or Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate Melting Wafers, any combination
- 40 M&Ms Candy Corns, candy eyeballs, or assorted sprinkles
Instructions
- Place six pretzel snaps on a microwave-safe plate.
- Place one piece of candy (Hershey’s Kisses, Hershey’s Hugs, Rolo, or dark chocolate melting wafers) on top of each pretzel.
Microwave on high until the chocolate just starts to melt:
- For Hershey’s Kisses – 45-50 seconds
- For Hershey’s Hugs – 40-45 seconds
- For Rolos – 25-30 seconds
- For Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers – 35-40 seconds
- Remove the plate from the microwave and press a decoration into the chocolate.
- Allow pretzel bites to cool and firm up on the plate or on a sheet of waxed paper.
