Easy Apple Crescent Dumplings with Sprite

These Apple Crescent Dumplings are the perfect easy dessert for fall. You will love the combination of tart apples that are wrapped in crescent dough and then baked in a buttery cinnamon sauce with Sprite in it. The apples stay nice and firm for the perfect texture to this simple dessert.

We really love these easy apple dumplings during the fall and winter.
The smells coming from your kitchen while this dish is baking will bring the whole neighborhood to your door.
Good thing it makes a big pan so there will be plenty to share.
🔑 Key to Success #1 – Use Granny Smith Apples
This recipe just begs for a nice crisp and tart apple like the Granny Smith.
It brings a lot of flavor to the apple dumplings, but it also holds up well while the dessert is baking.
When the apple dumplings come out of the oven, the apples will still be firm and have a little crunch to them.
They won’t be completely soggy and lose their distinctive apple texture.
If you can’t find Granny Smith Apples, you can try Jazz apples or Braeburn apples.
I prefer to peel my apples for these apple dumplings, but that step is optional.
My children are much more likely to eat apples without peeling and that is a big driving factor for me.
You can use a vegetable peeler or a sharp knife to peel all the apples.
I like to use an apple slicer to cut my apples into even wedges.
If you have never seen these gadgets, they are great if you often have a need to slice apples.
It removes the core and slices the apple into wedges in one step.
You can use a sharp knife and a cutting board to slice the apples.
Cut each apple into 8-10 wedges. You will need 32 apple wedges in all.
🔑 Key to Success #2 – Go Ahead and Crowd the Pan
We’re making these dumplings the easy way by using crescent dough.
You can use the refrigerated crescent rolls or the crescent roll sheets that are not already cut into triangles.
A roll of crescent rolls has the dough cut into 8 triangles. Cut each one of these in half to make 16 triangles in each package.
If you are using a sheet of crescent roll dough, cut it into 16 squares of dough.
Place one apple wedge at the wider end of each triangle and roll toward the point.
How you wrap the dough around the apple is not all that critical.
Walmart substituted the crescent roll sheets instead of crescent rolls so I used squares of dough in my photos. It worked just as well!
Line up all the wrapped apples in your greased baking dish.
You will end up with about 32 apples in the dish.
It’s okay to crowd them so just squeeze them into the pan as best as you can.
🔑 Key to Success #3 – Pour the Sprite Along the Sides Only
The sauce is made with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
I made my sauce in my 2-cup glass measuring cup, but any microwave-safe bowl will work just fine.
Melt the butter in the microwave on high power for 1 minute then add in the brown sugar and cinnamon.
Stir the mixture well then pour it all over the top of the apples.
You can use a spoon to make sure you get some topping on each one of the apple dumplings.
The final step is to pour the Sprite into the baking dish.
You can use any lemon-lime soda such as Sprite, 7-Up, or Mountain Dew.
I do not recommend using a diet soda in this recipe, but generic sodas are fine.
Pour the Sprite around the edges of the pan and between the dumplings, but do not pour it right on top of the dumplings.
If you pour the Sprite on top of the dumplings, it will rinse off the delicious sauce.

Easy Apple Crescent Dumplings
Ingredients
- 3-4 Granny Smith apples
- 2 cans, 8 oz each refrigerated crescent roll dough
- ¾ cup butter, melted
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- ⅔ cup Sprite lemon lime soda
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8-10 slices.
- Unroll crescent dough. Cut each triangle into two smaller triangles. You will end up with 32 dough triangles from the two packages.
- Place an apple slice on the short side of each triangle and roll up to the point, wrapping dough around each apple slice.
- Arrange crescent-wrapped apples in greased pan.
- In a medium bowl, stir together melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Pour the mixture over apple dumplings.
- Pour the Sprite in the center and along the edges of the pan. (Do not pour directly on the dumplings.)
- Bake uncovered 33-36 minutes until golden brown.
Notes
- In place of Sprite, you can use 7-Up, Mountain Dew, or similar lemon-lime sodas. I do not recommend using diet soda in this recipe.
- Crescent dough sheets can be used in place of crescent roll dough. Cut each sheet of dough into 16 squares and then roll up as directed.
- Peeling the apples is optional. You can leave the skin on if you would prefer.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream.

Yes you can! Honey crisp apples hold up well to baking and will add a slightly sweeter taste.
