Why You’ll Love This Easy Strawberry Trifle with Pound Cake
This easy strawberry trifle recipe is one of those desserts that always gets attention at parties. The layers look gorgeous in a glass trifle bowl, but the recipe itself is surprisingly simple to make. Since it is made with prepared pound cake and easy ingredients, it comes together quickly while still tasting homemade.
I also love that this strawberry trifle dessert can easily be made ahead of time. In fact, it tastes even better after chilling because the layers have time to soften and blend together. It is the perfect dessert for holidays, cookouts, family reunions, church dinners, and summer parties when you need something that serves a large group.

Ingredients for Strawberry Trifle with Pound Cake
This layered strawberry dessert uses simple ingredients that work together to create the perfect combination of creamy, fruity, and rich flavors.
- Pound cake
Pound cake gives this strawberry trifle a richer and more decadent texture than angel food cake. You can use homemade pound cake, frozen pound cake, or store-bought bakery pound cake. - Fresh strawberries
Fresh strawberries add sweetness, color, and texture to every layer. Be sure to wash and dry them well before slicing. - Instant vanilla pudding mix
Vanilla pudding helps create a creamy filling that holds the layers together beautifully. - Milk
Cold milk is used to prepare the pudding mixture. - Cream cheese
Softened cream cheese adds richness and gives the filling a cheesecake-like flavor. - Whipped topping
Whipped topping keeps the filling light and fluffy while making the dessert extra creamy. - Strawberry glaze or strawberry pie filling
This adds extra strawberry flavor and helps create those beautiful layered dessert visuals.

How to Make Strawberry Trifle with Pound Cake
This easy strawberry dessert comes together in just a few simple steps.
- Prepare the creamy filling by mixing the pudding mixture and cream cheese until smooth, then fold in the whipped topping.
- Cut the pound cake into bite-sized cubes.
- Wash and slice the strawberries.
- Begin layering the dessert by adding pound cake cubes to the bottom of a large trifle bowl.
- Add a layer of creamy filling followed by strawberries and strawberry glaze.
- Repeat the layers until the bowl is full, ending with whipped topping and strawberries on top.
- Refrigerate the strawberry trifle for at least 2 hours before serving for the best flavor and texture.

The Best Pound Cake for Strawberry Trifle
One of the reasons this strawberry pound cake trifle tastes so rich and satisfying is because of the pound cake. Store-bought frozen pound cake works perfectly and makes this recipe incredibly easy, but bakery pound cake or homemade pound cake also work well.
If you want a lighter texture, you may prefer my Strawberry Cheesecake Trifle made with angel food cake instead. The pound cake version is richer and sturdier, making it ideal for larger gatherings and longer serving times.

Make-Ahead Strawberry Trifle for Parties and Potlucks
This is one of my favorite make-ahead desserts for a crowd because it actually tastes better after sitting in the refrigerator for a few hours. The pound cake softens slightly while soaking up some of the creamy filling and strawberry flavor.
You can make this strawberry trifle up to 24 hours in advance, which makes it perfect for holidays, baby showers, cookouts, graduation parties, and church potlucks.

Tips for the Best Strawberry Trifle Dessert
- Let the cream cheese soften fully before mixing to avoid lumps in the filling.
- Dry the strawberries well after washing so the dessert does not become watery.
- Use a large clear trifle bowl so the layers are visible.
- Chill the dessert before serving so the layers can set properly.
- Save a few strawberry slices for the top to make the presentation extra pretty.

Strawberry Trifle Variations
One of the best things about this easy trifle recipe is how simple it is to customize.
Use Angel Food Cake
For a lighter version, substitute angel food cake for the pound cake.
Add More Cheesecake Flavor
Mix additional cream cheese into the filling for an even richer cheesecake flavor.
Try Different Berries
Blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries all work beautifully in this layered berry dessert.
Make It Patriotic
Add blueberries along with the strawberries for a red, white, and blue summer trifle that is perfect for Memorial Day or the Fourth of July.
How to Store Strawberry Trifle
Store leftover strawberry trifle covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The pound cake will continue to soften as it sits, but many people actually love the texture even more the next day.
This dessert is not ideal for freezing because the strawberries and whipped topping can become watery after thawing.
