Ingredients & Substitutions
Before you dive in, let me walk you through the essential ingredients that come together to create this fantastic snack.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Cream Cheese: Adds a creamy base that holds the filling together. For a lighter option, you could swap in reduced-fat cream cheese.
- Bacon: Crispy bacon bits bring that salty crunch—definitely a must! If you prefer, turkey bacon is a great substitute.
- Chicken Breast: Using canned chicken makes this recipe super quick, but you can also use shredded rotisserie chicken for added flavor.
- Ranch Seasoning Mix: Provides that signature ranch flavour. If you’re feeling adventurous, make your own ranch seasoning from scratch!
- Shredded Cheddar Cheese: It adds a melty, cheesy goodness. Feel free to mix it up with Monterey Jack or pepper jack for a spicier kick.
- Tortillas: I use burrito-sized tortillas for easy rolling, but any large wrap will work—whole wheat or spinach tortillas can add an interesting twist.
If you’ve got a few cans of chicken in your pantry, here are my favorite canned chicken recipes to try next.

How to Make Chicken Bacon Ranch Tortilla Roll Ups
Making these roll ups is a breeze!
Here’s a simple walkthrough to guide you:
🔑 Key to Success #1 – Start with Softened Cream Cheese
The key to mixing all the ingredients together is starting with softened cream cheese.
If you start off with a hard brick of cream cheese, it’ll be nearly impossible to get all the ingredients incorporated into your filling.
If you forget to let your cream cheese sit out on the counter to soften, you can microwave it.
Unwrap it and put it on a microwave-safe plate then microwave it for about 30-60 seconds until it softens up.
The other tip for a nice, creamy filling is to add just a touch of milk to help bring everything together.
All you’ll need is a tablespoon or two of milk and a good wooden spoon. (I love these teak wooden spoons. They would make a great gift, too!)

🔑 Key to Success #2 – Choose the Right Meats
I keep this recipe super simple by using canned chicken breast.
I ONLY use Tyson Premium Chunk White Chicken Breast when I need a good quality canned chicken breast.
It doesn’t contain anything weird and I’ve always had great success with it.
You can also use shredded chicken or even leftover rotisserie chicken in these roll-ups.
Be sure to drain your chicken well before you mix it into your filling.
For the bacon, you can use any variety that you like as long as it is cooked crispy.
My favorite way to cook bacon is in the Air Fryer.
It crisps up beautifully without getting grease all over my kitchen so clean up is a breeze.

I like to use a pair of kitchen scissors to cut my bacon into small pieces.
You will want the bacon pieces to be fairly small since you’re rolling this filling up in tortillas.

🔑 Key to Success #3 – Roll Them Tight and Cut Them Carefully
Once your filling is stirred together well, you’re ready to spread it on your tortillas.
Spread the filling all the way to the edge of each tortilla on both sides.
I leave a little 1/4-inch border at the top and bottom so that I can roll the tortillas up cleanly.
Starting at the bottom, roll each tortilla up as tightly as you can then turn it over with the seam side down.
You’ll notice that both ends of the roll-up are a bit empty and uneven.
I cut the ends off and discard them so that I’ll have nice, even roll-ups.
And when I say “discard,” I really mean I use them for taste testing! Yum!
You’ll cut the roll-ups into 3/4-inch slices using a sharp serrated knife.
Be sure to put a cutting board underneath your roll-ups so that you don’t mess up your countertop.

Serving Suggestions
Serve these delicious roll ups at room temperature or slightly chilled for the best experience.
They pair wonderfully with a side of fresh veggies and ranch dip, or you could even serve them alongside my favorite buffalo chicken dip for a truly indulgent spread!
Recipe Variations
Feeling creative? Here are some tasty twists you can try with this recipe:
- Spicy Kick: Add some diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce to the cream cheese mixture for a zesty heat.
- Mediterranean Flavor: Swap the ranch for tzatziki sauce and add chopped olives and sundried tomatoes for a Mediterranean flair!
- Veggie Delight: Incorporate your favorite chopped veggies like bell peppers or spinach into the filling for added crunch and color.
