Why I Love This Recipe
I have to say, Spicy Ranch Pretzels have a special place in my heart (and pantry).
They’re so simple to whip up, yet they deliver a powerful punch of flavors.
Plus, they keep well, making them an excellent snack to grab on the go.
The balance of spices is just right — not too mild, but not overwhelmingly hot — which means they’re a crowd-pleaser every time!

Ingredients & Substitutions
Here’s what you’ll need to make these tasty Spicy Ranch Pretzels:
- Pretzels: The backbone of our snack, providing that signature crunch.
- Vegetable Oil: Helps the spices adhere to the pretzels and adds a touch of richness. You can substitute with popcorn oil or melted butter for a different flavor profile.
- Fiesta Ranch Dip Mix: This instant flavor booster is a must! Any variety of Ranch dressing mix will work if you prefer something milder.
- Garlic Salt: Adds a robust, savory depth to the pretzels.
- Ground Cayenne Pepper: For that perfect kick of heat. Adjust the amount to suit your spice tolerance.
- Lemon Pepper: Brings a bright, zesty contrast to the other spices.

How to Make Spicy Ranch Pretzels
Making these pretzels is incredibly easy.
Here’s how:
- Prep the Oven: Preheat your oven to 250 degrees F and line a large, rimmed baking sheet with foil.
- Mix Spices: In a small bowl, combine the Ranch dip mix, garlic salt, cayenne pepper, and lemon pepper. Stir in the vegetable oil until well mixed.
- Coat Pretzels: Put the pretzels in a large zip-top baggie, pour in the oil mixture, seal the bag, and shake until all the pretzels are evenly coated.
- Bake: Spread the coated pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Bake uncovered for 15 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
- Cool: Remove from the oven and transfer to a sheet of waxed paper. Let them cool completely, about 30 minutes.

Key to Success #1 – Use Your Favorite Pretzels
We went with Pretzel Sticks in this recipe, but you can really use any pretzel shape.
The Spicy Ranch Pretzel recipe works just as well with mini pretzel twists or butter snaps.
You can even use the larger pretzel twists if that is what you have on hand.
I think the pretzel sticks are great because you can just grab a handful and go.

Key to Success #2 – The Secret Ingredient
The seasoning blend on these spicy pretzels is a packet of Fiesta Ranch dressing mix, garlic, cayenne pepper, and lemon pepper.
The lemon pepper is the ace in the hole in this recipe.
The citrus notes really bring the flavors together to make these Spicy Ranch Pretzels truly unforgettable.
We’re also using the Hidden Valley Fiesta Ranch Dip mix instead of the original Ranch flavor.
The Fiesta Ranch mix has flavors of chipotle, tomatoes, and onions along with the ranch flavoring.
It’s a strong choice to really add a nice flavor profile to your pretzels.
If you can’t find it, you can use the original Ranch dressing mix as an easy substitute.
Mix the ranch dressing mix and spices with some vegetable oil.
Equal amounts of canola oil, popcorn oil, or melted butter will work just as well in this recipe.
Add the pretzels to a gallon-sized zip-top plastic baggie then pour the spiced oil into the bag.
Tightly close the bag and shake well to coat the pretzels in the spices.

Key to Success #3 – Bake For Extra Crunch
The Spicy Ranch Pretzels bake at a relatively low temperature of only 250 degrees F.
Be sure to preheat the oven while you are mixing up your spices.
Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper then pour the coated pretzels into it.
Spread the pretzels out then pop them into the 250 degree F oven.
These pretzels only need to be baked for about 15 minutes.
It’s long enough to toast the pretzels and ensure that the spices stick to them, but not long enough to burn them.
You’re really just trying to give the pretzels an opportunity to soak up the oil then dry out a bit so that they stay crunchy.
After 15 minutes, remove the pretzels from the oven and give them a good stir before turning them out onto a sheet of waxed paper to cool.
Be sure to spread the pretzels out so that they will cool quicker.
In about 30 minutes, they’ll be ready for your hungry crew to devour.
The secret to these spicy ranch pretzels is in that zesty lemon pepper seasoning.
It really takes things up a notch from traditional bar snacks and adds an amazing depth of flavor to every bite.
Serve them warm or at room temperature with your favorite dipping sauce – ranch dressing goes particularly well here – and enjoy!
Recipe Variations
Thinking about adding a twist?
Here are some variations you might enjoy:
- Cheesy Kick: Sprinkle some grated Parmesan or cheddar cheese over the pretzels before baking.
- Herb-infused: Add dried herbs like dill or oregano to the spice mix for a fresh twist.
- Less Spicy: Use regular Ranch mix and cut back on the cayenne pepper for a milder version.

Frequently Asked Questions
Absolutely! Feel free to use pretzel sticks, twists, or even pretzel nuggets. Just make sure they are evenly coated with the spice mix.
Yes, you can! These pretzels store well in an airtight container for up to two weeks. They’re perfect for making ahead for parties or road trips.
Definitely. Simply use gluten-free pretzels and double-check that your Ranch dip packet and other seasonings are gluten-free as well.
You can try reducing the oil, but keep in mind that it helps the spices adhere to the pretzels. Using too little oil might result in uneven seasoning.
For an extra kick, increase the amount of cayenne pepper or add a pinch of chili powder. Just be careful not to overwhelm the other flavors.
No problem! You can substitute it with an equal amount of garlic powder and salt to achieve the same savory taste.
Whether you’re a spice enthusiast or just looking for a new go-to snack, these Spicy Ranch Pretzels are bound to become one of your favorites.
They’re quick, easy, and oh-so-satisfying. Happy snacking!
