Key to Success #1 – Do Not Substitute Ingredients
This Tomato Basil Soup recipe is super simple but the wonderful creamy flavor depends on the specific ingredients that are listed.
The only exception to this is the chicken broth.
If you’d prefer to use a vegetable broth, you could make that substitution.
The Bertolli brand Tomato and Basil Pasta Sauce and the Bertolli brand Alfredo with Aged Parmesan Cheese sauce are non-negotiable to this recipe.
You can use another brand or another variety if you prefer it, but I can’t guarantee that you’ll have a good result with a different brand or variety.

Key to Success #2 – Heat it Your Way
You can heat this Tomato Basil Soup in so many different ways!
Microwave
If you’re in a hurry, you can heat the soup in the microwave.
Be sure to use a microwave-safe bowl and heat on HIGH power for 3-5 minutes, until the soup is hot.
You can heat the soup in individual serving bowls as well, as long as the bowls are microwave-safe. These fluted bowls are super cute.
Instant Pot
If you have an Instant Pot, you can heat this soup in it.
If you don’t have one, you should buy one while it’s on sale!
Look for one that is at least 6 quarts. It has so many uses.
You won’t be disappointed.
You can either use the slow cook setting for 2-3 hours or you can cook on HIGH pressure and set the timer for 0 minutes.
Yes! You can set the timer for zero minutes. It will come to pressure then immediately start to natural release the pressure.
Crock-Pot
If you want to make this Tomato Basil Soup in advance, you can heat in a Crock-Pot slow cooker.
Use the LOW heat setting and set the timer for 2-3 hours or longer.

Key to Success #3 – Do Not Overheat
When you’re warming up this soup, you’re just warming it up to a comfortable temperature to eat.
You don’t have to boil it for a long time or anything.
You can just bring it to a simmer then it’s good to go.
This Tomato Basil Soup is the perfect soup to serve with grilled cheese sandwiches (click here for our Air Fryer Grilled Cheese Sandwiches recipe) or turkey and cheese sliders.
You could also serve it with buttery crackers, like Townhouse crackers or Ritz crackers.
