Why I Love This Easter Dirt Cake Trifle
There are so many reasons I keep coming back to this Easter Dirt Cake recipe.
First, it is visually beautiful. When I layer everything in a clear glass trifle bowl, you can see every chocolatey layer through the glass, which makes it perfect for an Easter dessert table.
Second, it feeds a crowd. With generous layers of cake, pudding, and Oreo crumbs, it easily serves twelve people and feels like a true centerpiece dessert.
Third, it is make-ahead friendly. I often assemble it earlier in the day and add the Marshmallow Peeps right before serving so everything stays fresh and pretty.
And finally, it combines nostalgic flavors. Chocolate cake, creamy pudding, and Oreos are classic comfort ingredients that everyone loves.

Ingredients
This easy Easter dessert uses simple, accessible ingredients that come together beautifully in layers.
- Chocolate cake mix plus the ingredients called for on the package
I use a standard fifteen ounce chocolate cake mix and prepare it according to the box directions. It gives the perfect base layer. If you are short on time, you can use a store bought baked chocolate cake or brownies instead. - Chocolate pudding mix
The large five ounce box creates that rich, creamy middle layer that makes this Easter Dirt Cake Trifle so indulgent. - Milk
Milk is whisked with the pudding mix to create a smooth and thick filling. - Cool Whip
I fold the Cool Whip into the pudding mixture for extra lightness. You can substitute homemade whipped cream if you prefer, but I love the stability that Cool Whip provides for make ahead desserts. - Oreo cookies
Crushed Oreos create the classic dirt look. I pulse them in my food processor until they are fine crumbs, which helps them spread evenly across each layer. - Marshmallow Peeps Bunnies, Easter candy, or sprinkles
These are what make this an Easter Dirt Cake. I press them into the top right before serving for a colorful and festive finish.

How to Make Easter Dirt Cake Trifle
This Easter Dirt Cake recipe comes together in simple layers and looks stunning in a clear glass bowl.
One tip that always works for me is chilling the trifle bowl before assembling. A cold bowl helps the pudding set more quickly and keeps the layers neat and defined.

Pro Tips for the Best Easter Dirt Cake
Make sure the cake is completely cool before layering to prevent the pudding from melting.
Use a clear glass trifle bowl to showcase the beautiful layers.
Pulse Oreos into fine crumbs for a realistic dirt appearance.
Add Peeps and decorations just before serving so they stay fresh and colorful.
If transporting, cover tightly with plastic wrap and keep chilled.

Serving Suggestions for Your Easter Dessert Table
This layered Easter dessert pairs perfectly with lighter spring treats and fruit-forward desserts. I often serve it alongside strawberry desserts, lemon cake mix bars, or pastel colored cookies to create a bright Easter spread.
You can also make this Easter Dirt Cake Trifle in individual clear cups for parties. Guests love having their own personal dessert, and it makes serving even easier.
