The Monte Cristo sandwich has been a popular staple at Disneyland since it was introduced in the 1960’s.

Get ready to take your sandwich game to new heights with this ultimate guide to creating ridiculously good Monte Cristo sliders.

In a traditional Monte Cristo sandwich, you layer slices of ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese on white bread and then dip it into an egg batter before frying it in a skillet.

The fried sandwiches are sprinkled with a dusting of powdered sugar and served alongside raspberry preserves for dipping.

But we’re turning tradition on its head with this easy appetizer recipe.

❤️ Why You’ll Love These Monte Cristo Sandwich Sliders

To truly understand why these Monte Cristo Sandwich Sliders are a must-try, let’s delve into what makes them so irresistible.

Picture this: warm, golden-brown Hawaiian rolls, filled with layers of savory ham and melty Swiss cheese.

But here’s where the magic happens – a delicate flavor of sweet and tangy raspberry jam that perfectly complements the savory ham and cheese.

This heavenly combination of flavors brings a blissful symphony to your taste buds, creating an unforgettable eating experience.

This is what elevates these sliders above traditional Monte Cristo sandwich recipes.

🔑 Key to Success #1 – Separate the Top Buns from the Bottom

Slicing the Hawaiian rolls into top and bottom buns without separating the rolls is a game-changer in terms of achieving that desired crispy and flavorful texture.

To separate the buns, start by placing the assembled package of slider buns on a cutting board.

With a sharp knife or a bread knife, gently run the blade halfway between the top and bottom of the buns, gliding it through without applying too much pressure.

The goal is to create a clean separation without tearing or damaging the rolls.

With the top buns separated from the bottom, you’re ready to assemble your Monte Cristo Sandwich sliders.

Instead of Hawaiian rolls, you can substitute slider buns made from challah or brioche.

🔑 Key to Success #2 – Overlap the Ham, Turkey, and Swiss for Maximum Flavor

Let’s continue our culinary adventure with the second key to success: overlapping the ham, turkey, and Swiss for maximum flavor.

Trust me, this simple technique is a game-changer.

As you layer the thinly sliced ham, tender turkey, and luscious Swiss cheese, the flavors will meld together in a harmonious symphony for your taste buds.

By overlapping the ingredients, every bite becomes a burst of savory bliss.

The ham complements the turkey’s succulent taste, while the Swiss cheese melts and adds its smooth, nutty notes to the mix.

The layers intertwine to create an indulgent masterpiece that will leave your guests craving more.

Instead of using both ham and turkey, you can choose just one of the meats if you prefer.

For the Swiss cheese, you can substitute cheddar, muenster, Gruyere cheese, mozzarella, or provolone.

🔑 Key to Success #3 – Slather on the Sauce, Then Let it Soak In

The right sauce can make or break a sandwich, and the Monte Cristo slider is no exception.

While the layers of deli ham, turkey, and cheese provide the foundation of flavors, it’s the sauce that brings everything together and adds that extra burst of savory goodness.

The sauce for these Monte Cristo sliders is made with melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, and black pepper.

If using unsalted butter, consider adding a quarter teaspoon of salt to your sauce for extra flavor.

Whisk the sauce together, then brush it over the top of the rolls before baking

When it comes to choosing the perfect dipper, there are endless possibilities.

Some opt for additional tangy Dijon mustard, while others prefer a sweet and tangy raspberry jam.

You could also try raspberry preserves or strawberry jam.

😋 Serving Suggestions

Now that you’ve learned how to make these tasty sliders, it’s time to consider some serving suggestions that will take your Monte Cristo sliders to the next level.

One idea is to pair your sliders with a refreshing side salad.

The crisp and vibrant flavors of a mixed greens salad dressed with a light vinaigrette can provide a refreshing contrast to the rich and savory sliders.

Another option is to serve your Monte Cristo sliders with a side of sweet potato fries.

The hint of sweetness from the fries complements the savory flavors of the sliders perfectly.

For a more indulgent twist, consider serving your sliders with a side of homemade macaroni and cheese. The creamy and cheesy goodness of the mac and cheese pairs wonderfully with the Monte Cristo sliders, elevating the comfort food factor to new heights.

With these serving suggestions, your Monte Cristo sliders are ready to shine.

You’ll surely serve a dinner that is Pinterest and Instagram worthy every time. (And be sure to tag me in your creations!)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a 9X13-inch baking pan with aluminum foil then spray with cooking spray.
  • Use a large serrated knife to slice the entire package of rolls in half so that you have separated the tops and the bottoms. Place the bottoms of the rolls into the prepared pan.
  • Layer the sliced ham over the bottoms of the rolls. Then layer the turkey over the ham. Finally, layer the Swiss cheese.
  • Add the tops of the rolls.
  • In a small bowl, combine melted butter, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper. Brush or spoon the mixture over the top of the rolls, allowing it to run down the sides.
  • Cover the rolls loosely with aluminum foil and allow them to stand for 5-10 minutes to absorb the sauce. Bake covered for 20 minutes. Then uncover and cook another 3-5 minutes until the tops of the rolls are browned.
  • Slice into individual sliders. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with raspberry jam, if desired.
