Why I Love This Recipe
This recipe holds a special place in my heart because it’s so simple yet so impressive.
You don’t need to turn on your oven, making it perfect for hot summer days.
The combination of creamy layers and crunchy Oreo bits creates a delightful texture contrast that’s downright addictive.
Plus, the flexibility of the recipe means you can customize it to suit your tastes or what you have on hand.

Ingredients & Substitutions
Every ingredient in this recipe plays an important role.
Here’s what you’ll need and why:
- Oreo Cookies: These are the star of the show, forming both the crust and the topping. You can substitute with other sandwich cookies if needed, but nothing beats classic Oreos.
- Butter: Melted butter helps bind the crushed Oreos into a firm crust.
- Cream Cheese: This gives the middle layer its rich, tangy creaminess. Make sure it’s softened for easy mixing.
- Powdered Sugar: Adds just the right amount of sweetness to the cream cheese layer.
- Cool Whip: A light and fluffy topping that ties everything together. You can use homemade whipped cream as a substitute, but Cool Whip is super convenient.
- Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix: The pudding layer brings the perfect chocolatey balance. You can experiment with other flavors like vanilla or peanut butter pudding if you’re feeling adventurous.
- Milk: Essential for preparing the pudding mix.

How to Make Oreo Delight
This recipe comes together in a few simple steps:
- Make the Crust:
- Crush about two-thirds of the Oreos.
- Mix the crumbs with melted butter.
- Press the mixture into the bottom of a 9×13-inch pan to form the crust.
- Prepare the Cream Cheese Layer:
- Beat together cream cheese, powdered sugar, and half of the Cool Whip.
- Spread this mixture over the Oreo crust.
- Make the Pudding Layer:
- Mix the chocolate pudding mix with milk.
- Let it set in the fridge for about 20 minutes until thickened.
- Spread the pudding over the cream cheese layer.
- Top It Off:
- Spread the remaining Cool Whip over the pudding layer.
- Smash the remaining Oreos into chunks and crumbs, then sprinkle them over the Cool Whip.
- Chill:
- Refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving to let the layers set.

Pro Tips for Success
- Crush Oreos Efficiently: Use a food processor for finely crushed crumbs or a rolling pin and a zip-top bag for a mix of chunks and crumbs.
- Soften Cream Cheese: Take the cream cheese out of the fridge about 30 minutes before you start to make mixing easier.
- Chill Time: Don’t rush the chilling step! It’s crucial for the layers to firm up and hold together nicely.
Serving Suggestions
- Serve chilled with a cold glass of milk or a hot cup of coffee for a delightful contrast.
- Add a drizzle of chocolate syrup or caramel sauce on top for extra indulgence.
- Pair it with fresh fruit like strawberries or raspberries for a refreshing twist.

Recipe Variations
Mint Oreo Delight: Swap regular Oreos for mint-flavored ones and add a few drops of peppermint extract to the cream cheese layer.
Peanut Butter Oreo Delight: Use peanut butter Oreos and mix a spoonful of peanut butter into the pudding layer.
Gluten-Free Version: Use gluten-free sandwich cookies instead of Oreos.
Additional Tips for Oreo Delight Success
- Make-Ahead Option: This dessert can be made a day in advance, making it perfect for parties.
- Portion Control: For individual servings, assemble the layers in mason jars or small cups.
- Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

So I am having trouble finding 3.1 ounce boxes of pudding. The small boxes at my store are 3.9 oz. Do I still do 3 cups of milk or do 4 to follow directions on the boxes?
Hi Rachel, you would still do the 3 cups of milk called for in the recipe to make a nice thick filling. Enjoy!
What if I don’t have powdered sugar?
What size pack of Oreos would you recommend?
This recipe is very forgiving! I like to use the family size pack of Oreos, which is about 19 oz. And I usually get the regular Oreos, not the double stuff. Either would work though. This dessert is sooooo delicious!!
