Key to Success #1 – Cut Your Potatoes Evenly
One of the single most important things you can do to ensure that your homestyle Air Fryer French Fries cook evenly is to cut them evenly.
I used a mandolin slicer to cut my fries into perfectly even widths and this helped so much to ensure that they would cook evenly. I have this exact adjustable mandolin slicer and vegetable julienner and it has been wonderful. I’m able to slice and cut the potatoes at the same time with only one pass over the blades.

The picture above is my raw potatoes that had been cut into French Fries using the mandolin slicer. They are so nice and pretty and even.
I chose to peel my potatoes before cutting them because that’s what my family prefers, but you can leave the skin on if you’d like.

Key to Success #2 – Dry Your Potatoes Well
In order for the French Fry potatoes to crisp up in the Air Fryer, they need to be very dry to start. Very dry. After I peel the potatoes, I wrap them in a clean kitchen towel and towel them dry.
Then after I slice them using the mandolin slicer, I use a couple paper towels to mop up any remaining moisture. This ensures that the potatoes are as dry as possible.

Key to Success #3 – Shake The Basket Often
While cooking your Air Fryer French Fries, be sure to shake the Air Fryer Basket often so that you can make sure all the French Fries are cooked evenly.
If you want to be gentler, you can use a spatula to flip your fries. These fries can handle a little shaking though. You can do whichever way is easier for you.

The cook times listed in this recipe are what worked for my Air Fryer, but yours may be slightly different. I have a Cozyna XL 5.8 QT Air Fryer.
